Function of the Y-axis
Y-axis lathes combine ±1.5″ of Y-axis travel, full C-axis motion, and high-performance live tooling to create versatile done-in-one machining solutions for any shop. Easily perform secondary milling operations on your lathe – such as off-center milling, drilling, and tapping – to boost throughput and increase accuracy.

About the C axis
Y-axis is used to mill or drill features that are off the center axis of the primary turned part. There are some types of features that you can mill or drill without Y-axis such as flats on the end of a shaft using your C axis and an on-center tool. But others require a Y-axis move.
